2013, The Year in Review

The website is in the process of a big update showcasing some of the great projects I had the pleasure of working on in 2013. Here's a small sample of some of the work on it's way to the site - projects that have kept us happy (and busy!) over the past 12 months.
Here, we look back fondly and look forward with much anticipation...

back to the (sketch)book

I've never been a diligent "sketchbooker", no matter how hard I tried. A shiny new book every year with the expectation that I would paint, glue, tear and scratch into every page, most often ended up being a very long to-do list. How depressing! I often looked back upon my art school years with such fondness, though, where we were forced to fill pages, were held accountable for it, and were all the better for it. So when I heard that Aaron Leighton was offering another one of his "subconscious sketchbook" classes at Nook Collective, I jumped at the chance. The most valuable lesson? Stop thinking and start doing, forgoodnesssakes.
It's been fun, therapeutic, and has allowed me to throw the inhibitions out the window
(well...sort of. Hey, we're all works in progress.)

Here's a selection of some of my pages thus far....
(hopefully with many more to come!)

No, Thank YOU

Well, it's been almost a month since Wes and Kiersten's wedding down in Georgia, and we're still reeling from the amazing experience (and the heat stroke!). In case you don't know them, or perhaps have been living under a rock, Wes and Kiersten are the genius brains behind Thersic, as well as my dear friends and the most creative couple I know. Their wedding was a true testament to this creativity, not leaving one pebble unturned...Wes and Kiersten did every little bit themselves, from the invitations to the thank you cards, and everything in between.
The handmade wonderfulness didn't stop as I received my Thank You gift from Kiersten, a portrait of little 'ol me in my bridesmaid's dress! I couldn't think of a better gift to cap off such an amazing week down South. Thanks Kiers!

See Kiersten's original post here.

A pretty Congratulations to two of my best buddies, Devin & Darcy, who recently got engaged in Italy!
I did this little number up for their impromptu engagement party...nothin' says I love you like hand-sewn typography in flag form!

Your New Favourite Blog

THERSIC, a collaboration between two of my favourite individuals, Kiersten Essenpreis and Wes Cox, fuses art, industrial design, fashion and funny into my new favourite blog. Kiersten and Wes have an endless amount of talent to share and, collectively, four of the best eyes in the biz. Read about their inspiration and the meaning behind THERSIC here.

After you visit, it'll be your new favourite blog too.

Holiday Stocks

Another Year, Another AI Party

American Illustration
took New York by storm again this fall, celebrating some of the best images in the industry. I am honoured to have been included among such talent again this year - Kiersten Essenpries, Jordin Isip, Leif Parsons, Christian Northeast...you get the idea. The book looks fantastic.
And the party ain't so bad either!
See a great picture of the celebration in action on Kiersten's blog, you fail.

Can't wait 'til next year!

Commend

Beautiful short by Alexi Parizeau.
The Parishil Boys explain:

"Over the course of two days in July Alexi Parizeau captured the process of Adam Hilborn's first solo show "HOMEWARD BOUND" at the Barbershop Gallery. The camera was capturing images every 3 seconds with a Canon 5D Mk2 and 24mm 1.4F lens, tethered to a laptop.

The first night was a special invitation "Dinner with the Artist". The Dinner was prepared by Justine and Sara Wood of Les Louises. Friends and family were asked to attend the private viewing.

The following evening "HOMEWARD BOUND" was open to the public.

This is how it went..."

Selected!

I just found out that this Coldplay piece I did for SPIN was jury selected
to appear in the upcoming American Illustration Annual 28.

The Annual is published in November, but you can still get AI 27 which features work by talented friends Kiersten Essenpreis, Leif Parsons, and Ted McGrath (who also did the fantastic cover), among many others.
I'm thrilled to be included in another great annual alongside peers who inspire me to no end.

love/food

I try my hardest to provide tasty tidbits of all things illustration, art and design; when it comes to feeding myself, however, I often fall short. That's why I leave that to my friend Angus of Angus Bennett Catering-just about the greatest chef I know. Angus has been feeding my always-hungry belly ever since he moved into town, and he's now ready to share some tasty (and beautiful) morsels with all of you.

Who says art can't be eaten?
Visit his new blog LOVE FOOD to be inspired by talent of a different flavour.
